The Son

A Story I Read:

When my daughter told me she was going to move colleges (away from the one i taught at, and to a different college), I was so disappointed! She told me, “You dont understand what its like to be the daughter of one of the heads of the college!”

At first that hurt! “Why that ungrateful wretch, what does she mean i dont know what its like to be the daughter of one of the Heads of the college, that she attends?” I thought to myself.

I saw her when she took her first steps; I remembered when she told me she had learned to rest on her first day in kindergarten; I rememberd her first date; i knew more about her than she did herself.

But after a while I cooled down a bit, and i realized that she was right! I knew many things about her, things she didnt know herself, but i didnt know the experience of being my own daughter and attending the same college i taught at. So I grudgingly said to her, “I guess you’re right, I don’t know what its like, please tell me and perhaps i will be able to think about it in a new perspective.”

God also didnt have the experience of what it was like to be his child, to have to live the life of a child of God, and go through all the pain and temptation of a human. To have that experieince, he came into the world as a human, that is, his son, Jesus. And now the son is seated on the right hand of God, constantly explaining to God what it’s like to be human (Heb 4:14-16). God seeks the human perspective, that is what prayer is all about! When we prayer we remind God what it is like to be human and we get to tell him things from our perspective.

God sent his son in human form as another clear indication that he wants to know what it’s like from the human perspective, and not let any excuse come between our relationship with him!
